The theme for this conference is “Old and New Technologies Converge in
Historic San Juan”. San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico and is the oldest
city under U.S. jurisdiction. The city dates back more than 5 centuries. The
conference theme highlights the historical importance of the city of San Juan
and how this historical environment blends with the contemporary infrastructure
of the city. This historical setting has been influenced by technological
advancements that have been incorporated to enhance the infrastructure of this
city. Although the historical construction is preserved, the city of San Juan
is always under continuous improvement, which allows for the blend between new
and old technologies.
The city of San Juan is also a great touristic attraction due to its
combination of sun, sand, sea and society. The history of the city of San Juan
includes a rich cultural background that has been influenced by the Spanish,
African, Taíno and American cultures. Sea, sand and sun are always within a
walking distance from major points of Old San Juan. The tropical weather of the
island allows for enjoying the sand, sun and sea anytime during the year. In addition, you will enjoy the Puerto Rican hospitality and
cuisine, and the distinguishable architecture of the City of San Juan.
The congress will include the signature tracks traditionally offered in the
Construction Research Congress as well as new tracks. This will allow
presenting innovative and up to date research related to our construction
community.
On behalf of the Construction Institute of the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE), the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and the Organizing
Committee, I invite you to the 2016 CRC and to the city of San Juan, Puerto
Rico.
Come and join this discussion under the skies of this five-century old city of
innovation.
See you in San Juan!
